Varsity Softball Clinches FAA Regular Season Title
It was a big day for the St. Luke’s varsity softball team. On Wednesday, May 11, the Storm celebrated senior Ali Trager’s ‘16 dedication to the softball program with a big 9-1 victory over Greenwich Academy. The win was extra sweet as the triumph earned the Storm at least a share of the regular season FAA title.
The game started with uncertainty for the Storm. Ali Ferris ’18 looked good on the mound, but a series of errors and a scary moment when a line drive hit Ferris in the pitching arm gave Greenwich Academy a 1-0 lead. Showing great poise, Ferris took the setbacks in stride and got out of the inning. The Storm never looked back, as it would be GA’s only run scored.
Ferris looked dominant on the mound for the rest of the game, tallying 7 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. On her big day, Ali Trager had two RBIs, while Kristen Beaumonte ‘18 had three hits, and Riley Page ’19 had two hits.
With the victory, not only did the Storm lock down the regular season FAA title, but they also extended their impressive win streak to seven in a row after dropping the first two games of the season. The Storm are now 7-2 on the season, and are poised to make a run for their second consecutive FAA championship title.
