Date with Debate: Seniors Vs. Faculty

VGP
It was standing room only in the Global Classroom during Wednesday’s lunchtime Date with Debate. Faculty members Sonia Bell and Corey Gammill were challenged to a debate by Debate Team co-captains Alex Levy '16 and Eliza Posner '16. Debate Team member Chloe Kekedjian '18 introduced and moderated this inaugural event. The teams used parliamentary debate which Chloe explained "...is more of a thinking exercise than lots of prep and research."

The topic debated was: Publicly funded universities should decrease enrollment in degree programs with statistically poor employment outcomes. Alex started it off arguing the affirmative and was followed by Sonia Bell debating the opposition. Eliza responded and Corey Gammill wrapped it up. Since this was an intellectual exercise, no winner was declared. Perhaps as a warning to future challengers Bell declared, "Now we know what we’re doing, we’re ready to take on anyone."

Anyone interested in participating in the 2016-2017 Upper School Debate Team should contact Chloe Kekedjian or Bilal Memon.
