7th Grade Learns Through “Xploration”

VGP
From 7th grade teacher Sarah Dormady:

During the last days of school, the 7th grade participated in the second round of the Xploration—a project-based learning program started during this year’s Discovering Voices: Taking Flight. 7th grade students were assigned to one of five groups or “houses.”  Each house designed and planned an experience for the entire grade centered around each house’s mission of a “world without technology, human interaction, creativity, human rights, or healthy food.”

Students visited grocery stores to understand living on a budget while trying to be conscious of the environment and wellness, They sat in on ESL classes at Neighbors Link, and harvested fields at Fairgate Farms in Stamford. They participated in workshops designed to celebrate creative expression like cupcake decorating, karaoke, improv theater, dance and more. It was a great way to end the year through hands-on learning critical social and human rights issues, collaboration, leadership, and the design thinking process, all while having fun.
