Boys Soccer celebrating a Chase Britt '18 goal in pre-season
St. Luke's Boys Soccer Season Preview

The St. Luke’s Boys Soccer program has a new look this year after graduating seven players from the 2015 roster as well as a new Co-Head coach, Ryan Fairhurst, who will work alongside the 6-year veteran Corey Gammill.
Gammill is excited for the season and expects the same work ethic and determination from previous teams despite a lot of new faces. He said, “The core of the team understands our expectations and the younger guys are learning quickly. This will be a team that is technically young, but competitive and athletic. They should produce a brand of soccer that is fun to watch.”
Gammill has been impressed with the work the team, and Fairhurst, have put in during preseason and hopes this can carry through the rest of the fall. “Coach Ryan has been an incredible addition to the program. He runs an incredible practice and he is very thoughtful towards skill development. The boys have responded enthusiastically and love Ryan’s approach.”
The Storm have a tough schedule ahead of them but, after making the FAA tournament in 2015, the coaches are looking to repeat that feat at a minimum. “We have a schedule filled with parity, so every game is a challenge, but I am confident that if we play a hard-nosed brand of soccer every team we face will have a battle.”
The 2016 team will be led by Senior Captains Luke Martocchio and Alex Nerod and Gammill has been impressed with what he has seen so far. He said, “Luke and Alex have done an excellent job of pushing our hard-nosed approach. They work hard and, supported by their fellow seniors, set a high standard of what they expect out of their teammates.”
Gammill has instilled a real sense of pride within the program and always wants his teams to be difficult to beat. He expects to see grit and heart in every game and believes that, plus the talent he has on the roster, is a great combination. He added, “It will be a fun year for these boys. If they bring a competitive approach everyday, they will succeed and feel the same pride that teams before them have felt.”
After a number of very good scrimmages, against some tough competition, the boys started their season off with a tough 2-1 loss on Wednesday to Hamden Hall. They dominated the game for large periods but an inability to find the back of the net hurt them in the end. They continue on Saturday 9/24 at home vs South Kent at 2.30pm.
