The St. Luke’s Football team were defeated 7-0 in their home opener against Wilbraham and Monson Academy on Saturday afternoon.
Despite some resolute defending, the Storm struggled to get their offense going against a very stubborn and organized W&M team.
The score was tied 0-0 until Wilbraham and Monson’s Junior Quarterback Anthony Costa broke clear for a rush of 16 yards to give them a 7-0 advantage with just 1.19 remaining in the first half.
St. Luke’s continued to battle hard throughout the second half and thought they had scored a touchdown of their own with the very first play of the 4th quarter. Shaka Moales ‘18 intercepted a Costa pass and raced 55 yards into the end zone. Unfortunately for Moales ‘18 and the Storm there was a defensive offside call and the score remained 7-0.
The home side, without one of their most potent running backs Justin Brown ‘17 because of a toe injury, found it difficult to move the ball down the field. Coach Noel Thomas said, “We never found a rhythm on offense. I thought we were very good defensively and our overall effort level was great. Now we must look forward to Hamden Hall.”
The Storm continue the season this Friday afternoon against against the Hornets at Pedrick Stadium. Kick-off is 3.45pm.
