Political Lunchtime Forum Discusses Democracy in Action
S. Vehslage/VGP
From Associate Director of College Counseling Stephen Vehslage:
On Friday, October 14, AP Government teacher Jason Haynes and I held the 2016 Presidential Election: Questions and Perspectives on Democracy in Action lunchtime forum in the Fireplace Commons. This lunch was a continuation of a political conversation started by Ari Fleischer during his assembly in late September. The forum focused on a variety of issues relating to the Presidential Election and the US political system. We outlined the mechanics of the Electoral College, highlighted current polling data and projections for the outcome of the presidential race, and discussed why third parties have difficulty gaining traction in US elections. The presentation was followed up by a number of questions from the audience of Upper School students and faculty.
