10th Graders Give Holiday Help to Nonprofits

V. Parker
From Director of Character Education Kate Parker-Burgard:

Some St. Luke’s sophomores got a little taste of what it might be like to be an elf. On Saturday, about 25 tenth graders assisted in moving and sorting thousands of toys to be donated for the holidays. More than 2000 of Stamford children being served by various nonprofit organizations had a wish list with two holiday gifts that they wanted. With many other volunteers doing most of the wrapping, our students kept them organized. The central workplace to organize all these gifts was an old, abandoned pool in Inspirica’s basement. It was an ambitious task to carefully catalogue and make sure that all the gifts were put in the right piles. With the help of holiday music and great spirits, the St. Luke’s volunteers worked hard all day and got the job done.

Some students stayed even later than the 4:00pm scheduled end time. Tamia Fulton '19, along with her mother, stayed until the very end when all the gifts were finally sorted. Tamia said, "It was amazing to see so many students come together to help with this effort. I hope every child enjoys the gifts they receive. I had so much fun participating in this event and I would love to do it again next year."
