Debate Team Takes Winning Trophy at State Finals

It was an exciting weekend for St. Luke's Debate Team with Chloe Kekedjian '18, Bilal Memon '18, Marco Volpitta '20 and Amelie Warneryd '20 participating in the CT Debate Association State Finals. To add to the excitement, the Volpitta '20, and Warneryd '20 team took home the Connecticut State trophy after winning the championship round. The debate took place at the Joel Barlow High School in Redding with 30 schools and 178 participants in attendance.
 
There are nine CT Debate Association tournaments held throughout the school year with as many as 500 participants. Most tournaments run on a Saturday from 8:30am-6:00pm. St. Luke's Debate Team consistently places or receives special honors.
 
Debate coach Beth Yavenditti shared, “St. Luke’s Debate continues to be a strong, supportive team. We are so proud of the debaters’ efforts and accomplishments.”
