Chinatown Adventures: From History to Hot Pot

V. Parker
St. Luke's Mandarin students went to Chinatown in NYC to visit the Museum of Chinese in America.
From Mandarin Teacher Jingjing Lai:

St. Luke’s Upper School Mandarin students headed into Manhattan’s Chinatown on April 5 for a fun and educational field trip. The first stop was the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) with a guided tour on "Where do stereotypes come from?" We examined and analyzed how the Chinese were represented in the United States through political cartoons, advertisements and pop culture from the 19th century to present-day. Then it was off to 99 Favor Taste—a popular all-you-can-eat Chinese hot pot restaurant. (Hot pot is a Chinese soup containing a variety of East Asian ingredients and prepared with a simmering pot of broth at the table.) It was a great opportunity for the students to order in Mandarin and enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine.
