Perfect Week For Storm Field Hockey

Dan Clarke
The St. Luke’s Varsity Field Hockey team enjoyed an incredible week as it went 3-0 with wins against Kennedy Catholic High School, The Masters School (NY), and The Hopkins School.

The Storm got off to the great start on Wednesday, September 12 as goals from Abbey O’Meara ‘20, Andrea DiTeodoro ‘22, Lili Messina ‘22 and two from Lucy Ehlers earned an impressive 5-1 win over Kennedy.

VFH followed that up with another goal fest against Masters on Friday, September 15. Kendall Boege ‘19, DiTeodoro, Messina, Lucy Ehlers, and Madden Hart ‘22 (x2), all found the back of the net in a dominant 6-0 home victory.

However, the Storm saved its best performance for FAA rival Hopkins to cap off a perfect week. In a hard-fought contest, St. Luke’s broke the deadlock late in the second half as goals from Lucy Ehlers and DiTeodoro gave the Storm its first win against the Hilltoppers since 2008.

Head Coach Seeley Fancher was thrilled with her team’s effort: “It’s so exciting to see so much heart and hard work from these girls. Not only are they giving 100% effort, communicating, and working as a connected unit, but they are having fun while doing it. It seems like the girls love the feeling of scoring a goal. Once they put the ball in the back of the cage, they want to do it again and again. This mentality has certainly helped us take and maintain the lead.”
