Elizabeth and Christina McLaughlin, children of St. Luke's School administrator Ninette Enrique, recently donated 21 inches of hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces for financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss.
It took over two years for the girls to grow out their hair. “We did it because we wanted to help other kids feel normal and happy,” says six-year-old Christina. Older sister Lizzy, who is eight years old, added, “Helping other people makes the world a better place. If you need help one day, others will help you.”
“Giving to others is one of the most important values we can impart to our children,” says Ninette. “Anyone, even a child, has the power to make a positive difference in his or her own way.” Ninette has been director of development at St. Luke's since 2003. She is an active volunteer and donor to local youth and educational institutions and believes deeply in St. Luke's motto, "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve."
Elizabeth and Christina are currently students at North Mianus School in Riverside, CT. They hope to attend St. Luke's School in the future.
