The Girls Basketball Program Wins FAA Championships

It was, to say the least, a stellar week for the St. Luke’s girls basketball program. Both the girls junior varsity, and varsity teams were crowned champions on Saturday, February 6, and Tuesday, February 9 respectively.
The junior varsity squad, under the leadership of coaches Clifford Doll and Susan Garnett, capped off a perfect season in their final game. The team’s final win this season came in the form of an impressive 29-14 victory over a tough Sacred Heart team. The win not only marked their eleventh of the season, but it also gave the Storm an FAA championship title.
A mere three days later, the varsity team followed suit. Going into Monday’s game against Rye, who had only dropped one FAA game the entire season, the Storm also looked to remain perfect in league play. In the first half, the normally dominant Storm was locked in a scoring battle with the dangerously efficient Wild Cats. At the end of the period, the Storm was down 27-28. However, the girls, as they have seemed to do all season, exploded in the second half. The final score was 62-47. With the win, the Storm clinched the title of regular season champions and improved their overall record to 16-2. The girls varsity basketball team has one more regular season matchup this season against rival King on Thursday, February 18.
