J-Term In Action

VGP
From Director of Character Education Kate Parker-Burgard:

Last Friday, St. Luke’s freshman reconnected with their J-Term experience through a service day designed to affect change in the community and in themselves. Two topics—poverty and gender equity—received the most votes at the end of J-Term Expo in January. This spring, the grade collectively delved deeper into these two topics. The day started with a workshop on poverty and then the grade split up into five groups. Each group went to a different location to help local organizations that work with people living in poverty: Inspirica in Stamford, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Person to Person (two locations) and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. The group returned to campus to discuss their experiences and then after lunch they met again to explore the topic of gender equity.

Under the leadership of students, Olivia Schwartz and Nolan O'Brien (with some virtual help from Shamond Moore) the class discussed ways in which our gender stereotypes affect all of us (both men and women) and then pledged to do something to help.
