On June 10, Head of School Mark Davis concluded the annual year-end faculty & staff meetings with awards and appreciation. The awards recognized some of our incredibly dedicated faculty, who regularly go above and beyond to nurture our students and enrich the St. Luke’s community.
The Dr. Joseph R. Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award went to math teacher, Jeanne Cortes. This Teacher of the Year award is given to a full-time teacher who exemplifies the ideals of St. Luke’s through excellence in the classroom, service to the total School community, and dedication to the well being and growth of St. Luke’s students.
The St. Luke’s Crusader of the Year Awardwas given to Director of Global Education, Beth Yavenditti. This award is given to the full-time member of the faculty or staff whose contribution to St. Luke’s far exceeds that which is expected of her or him, thereby enriching the life and effectiveness of the School.
The Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award went to history teacher Jen Pokorney and Middle School Music Chair Katie Kaplan for their collaborative work on the Middle School Discovering Voices program. The Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award is given to the innovative members of the St. Luke’s community whose work has made a significant impact on the SLS student experience and in the development of a culture of innovation at St. Luke’s.
Farewells were also part of the afternoon. Three warm and wonderful St. Luke’s faculty members retired this year: Upper School math teacher Elaine Greene, 5th grade teacher Kathy King, and Art Chair Susan Cole.
Other faculty and staff members are off to new adventures. They were each acknowledged by their departments and given books personally selected for them by colleagues. Departing faculty and staff include Merideth Ostrer, Zach Pearce, Avi Sosa-Velasco, andSally Welsh.
