St. Luke's Athletic Kick-off Has Superb Support

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s hosted the annual Athletic Kick-off on Thursday evening to celebrate the start of the 2016-17 season for all SLS sports.

The event, hosted by the St. Luke’s Athletic Department and Parents’ Association Athletics/Storm Chasers Committee, was a huge success with over 300 student athletes, coaches and parents in attendance.

St. Luke’s Athletic Director, Mike West, talked about the significance athletics plays in the development of our students and the importance of our multi-sport athletes to the success of our programs. He acknowledged the tremendous number of students who represent SLS in two and even three sports including more than 100 student athletes.

Another key focus of the evening was sportsmanship, something West is keen to see throughout our athletic programs and something he believes is at the heart of what the department is trying to achieve. He said, “I’d like us to be leaders in the FAA, showing character and class across our entire program...no matter the result, having respect at all times for our opponents.”

The evening continued with information on important dates for the athletic program, as well as breakout meetings for all Fall teams while our Winter and Spring coaches stayed around to answer any questions new families may have about their respective sports.

Good luck to all our student-athletes and teams this year. Go Storm!
