Ancient Coin Collection Shared with Students

V. Parker
It’s not too often students studying ancient Greece gets a hands-on learning experience, but that’s just what happened in Jim Yavenditti’s Age of Pericles class. St. Luke’s alumni parent Cliff Fox graciously brought in his ancient coin collection and allowed students to have a tactile connection with coins created as far back as 2500 years ago.

Yavenditti said, “We have been discussing the history and culture of ancient Greece all semester, and that made the tangible experience even better.” He continued, “I think the students were most surprised by the weight and the artistry of the coins. That's not something you can really take in and understand just by seeing a picture from a book or website.”

Many thanks to Cliff Fox for taking the time to share his passion for coin collecting and reminding us that a love of learning is lifelong.
