Back-to-Back St. Luke’s Seniors Enter West Point
V. Parker
St. Luke’s senior Ryan Murphy received two standing ovations from classmates and teachers as he received his Certificate of Appointment to West Point. MyLinh B. Shattan—U.S. Military Academy Class of 1991, West Point Admissions and Field Force Representative—came to St. Luke’s School to formally present Ryan’s certificate.
“I like this trend and the relationship the school is developing with West Point,” said Shattan, referring to the fact that she was at St. Luke’s in 2016 to appoint St. Luke’s alumna Emma Powless, then a senior at the school.
Shattan brought Murphy a message from Powless: “The hardest part is memorizing paragraphs of information...The best part: the people and realizing what I’m part of—it never ceases to amaze me.”
Students and teachers were back up on their feet as senior Whit Kim, who is entering the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School, received his certificate from his father David Kim. Kim senior, an honors graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, said Ryan and Whit were embracing St. Luke’s mission by “going forth to serve their country.” David Kim and his wife Cynthia are founders of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.
