From Model UN Advisor Abby Abbott:
On January 25, nineteen members of St. Luke's Model United Nations team traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the Ivy League Conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. St. Luke's sophomores Chris Walsh and Ruth Mercedes were awarded a Verbal Commendation out of 180 participating schools.
At the Model UN, students represented Rwanda and drafted resolutions on a range of topics including increasing free, fair and open democratic elections. There were also two historical committees based on the financial crisis of 2007 and the Vietnam War. When not in session, the students had the chance to tour Penn State campus, listen to a live band, enjoy the delegate dance, and of course, sample a variety of Philly Cheesesteaks.
St. Luke's Model UN will attend the Global Citizens Conference in New York City this month and another in April at Cornell University. St. Luke's team this year is one of the largest in the school's history with 52 members participating in at least one conference.
