St. Luke’s Sophomores Take Deeper Dive on Their J-Term Topic

St. Luke's sophomores host webinar about human trafficking.
From Director of Global Education Beth Yavenditti:

Human trafficking, a global issue that touches all nations, was the topic of a webinar hosted by St. Luke’s sophomores Harper Boege, Sarah Bryant, and Emily Stute. St. Luke’s partnered with Princeton Day School to research various aspects of this issue and to organize and host this webinar via our membership in News-Decoder, a not-for-profit news organization for young people around the world. The students were joined by Kieran Gilbert of the Thomson Reuters Foundation to discuss this issue. Harper and Emily gained a greater understanding of human trafficking during their 9th grade J-Term. Their focus was on child trafficking, and they wanted to continue their work in drawing attention to this issue. They formed the club Children in Chains at St. Luke’s to spread awareness about child trafficking and labor, both globally and locally.

Participating in the webinar allowed them to learn more and share their knowledge with a broader audience. Sarah has been the student representative for News-Decoder this past year. As advisor, I have found News-Decoder to be a great way to engage students in learning about global issues and collaborate with other young people around the world. It also gives students access to a growing network of experts on these topics.
