St. Luke's Strategy for Enduring Success

The Strategic Planning Process has officially kicked off...

St. Luke’s School recently announced the launch of a year-long strategic planning process led by its Board of Trustees. Head of School Mark Davis shared the news with parents at the school’s 18th Annual State of the School, saying: “Continuous improvement, exceeding your expectations, and going above and beyond for your children require that we not rest on our laurels.”

A new Strategic Planning Team (SPT) has already begun work led by co-chairs David Pakman, St. Luke’s parent, trustee and partner at Venrock and  Julia Gabriele, Associate Head of School and Chief Financial Officer.  Pakman points to a “changing macro-environment, new advances in learning, and the importance of thinking about how best to prepare our children for a dynamic and uncertain future” as catalysts for the strategic planning process.

St. Luke’s has experienced growth for the past decade. According to Board Chair James Andersen, this year St. Lukes saw the largest enrollment in its 91-year history: “Since 2010, there has been a 42% increase in applications. That is a remarkable figure in a competitive market.” Andersen credits an exceptionally strong faculty and a campus evolution, including new Science, Arts and Humanities wings for the school’s trajectory: “St. Luke’s has shown confidence in our hiring, in our education philosophy, and in our campus ambitions. That confidence has propelled us into the upper echelon of independent schools in this country.”

According to Davis, planning while the school is thriving, “ensures that a St. Luke’s education remains exceptional. Ultimately, this process will help us make the strategic choices required to inspire in children a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve and the confidence to lead.”
