Our Reimagined Spring Gathering was a huge hit and would not have been successful without the support of all of you. We had over 185 families participate in the great Food Truck Race, indulge in a specialty gift that supported local merchants, or made a financial contribution to the Parent’s Association through our Heart Challenge. The event kicked off on Monday February 1st with a flurry to secure a food truck. Who would have known that the food trucks would be such a success and that we would extend the Great Food Truck Race to week 2 and bring one more lucky truck back for another lap around the Hilltop?
To celebrate the end of our 12-Day Gift Extravaganza, we had a great community gathering on Thursday February 25, when over 75 people joined together on Zoom to be treated to a culinary gathering with Chopped Champion Silvia Baldini. Silvia, who is a resident of New Canaan, treated everyone to a step-by-step demonstration of preparing a delicious family meal: Slow Cooked Braised Fennel and Cumin Chicken, Date Chutney and Creamy Polenta. Silvia thought of everything for our culinary evening, beginning with a specialty cocktail and finishing with a tasty Roasted Mango Sticky Rice Pudding for dessert. The evening was filled with culinary tips and facts, stories of Silvia’s participation on Chopped Chef, and lots of SLS parents and faculty cooking along or taking notes to prepare the dish at a future date. Silvia’s humorous personality and incredible culinary knowledge made for an exceptionally enjoyable evening.
Finally, the Give•Gather•Gift event had one last treat for all its participants over spring break – a surprise package from Grace Farms! The specially curated gift box developed by our guest chef herself, Silvia Baldini, in collaboration with Grace Farm’s contained Grace Farm’s new coffee, herbal tea, and salted chocolate chip cookies.
This fundraiser, which began almost exactly 2 months ago, has one more lap to go! Stay tuned as the food trucks start to make their laps around the Hilltop!
