Varsity Softball Has Strong Start to Season

The St. Luke’s varsity softball team has enjoyed a strong start to the season, moving to 6-0 with some impressive performances.

The Storm kicked off the spring with a non-league match against Cheshire Academy on Wednesday, March 30. A tremendous performance by pitcher Alexandra Bacher ‘24 shut out the Cats and gave St. Luke’s a 4-0 victory.

SLS softball followed up with an extra-innings win against Kent School on Saturday, April 2. Jessie Hausman ‘22 pitched nine strong innings in her first start for the Storm, with St. Luke’s edging the Lions 6-5 in the 11th. Hausman was back on the mound when St. Luke’s beat Greenwich Country Day School on Monday, April 11,

Another outstanding performance from Bacher gave the Storm a 4-0 win over Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday, April 13. Bacher also had three hits and an RBI on the day, with co-captain Lili Messina ‘22 chipping in with two hits and an RBI, too.

On Thursday, April 14, St. Luke’s improved to 5-0 for the season with a 10-1 victory against The Harvey School. Aurora Levesque ‘24 produced three hits and two RBIs. Co-captain Dakota Kelly ‘22 also had three hits, and Margot Seiden ‘25 had two RBIs against the Generals.

The Storm made it 2-0 in league play with another splendid batting display against Holy Child School on Tuesday, April 19. Kelly had three RBIs, with Levesque and Seiden adding two each in a 10-0 win for the Storm.

Co-captain Andrea DiTeodoro is thrilled with the way her team has started this spring: “I am really excited about our start to the season. We are working really hard in practice, which has translated into wins. Going forward, we will have even more big games, and I expect that our focus and work ethic in practice will prepare us well.”

Next up for the Storm is two FAA road games at Hamden Hall on Monday, April 25, and Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, April 27. Messina believes the work ethic of the team will help the Storm prepare for the upcoming challenges: “Hard work wins games and I think our team embodies that. I think we have really perfected our hard work and fun balance. This balance is what motivates us and keeps us winning."
