A record number of students participated in the annual Blues Band Concerts. Fifty students in Middle and Upper School performed together alongside faculty and staff in the Seldin Performing Arts Center.

Each year, music teachers Peter Valera and Maggie Lauer guide students as they select songs, determine song order, and brainstorm performance ideas. As Lauer explained, “The experience provides students with the opportunity to express their creativity, try new things, and think outside the box. For example, this year we created the first-ever Blues Band t-shirt designed by Liliana Finn ('26). The Blues Band becomes a musical family at SLS. To me, it’s always special to watch how the older students mentor the younger students during rehearsals and performances.” Peter Valera observed, “To see how students’ confidence and musicianship grow over time, it’s beautiful.”

A rockin’ and beloved community tradition, the Blues Band concerts showcase what happens when people are given the chance to take risks and soar. There is no better way to celebrate the endless talent on the Hilltop—with high energy and a whole lot of soul.
