The St. Luke’s Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team had its first sweep of the season on Monday afternoon, winning four three-setters on the way to a 7-0 victory over KLHT. St. Luke’s was once again led by its top three singles players, Chester Murray, Alex Magill, and Roy Skinner, who are now a combined 12-0 in league play.
Co-captain Murray, playing #1 singles, beat Billy Smithline of KLHT in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Co-captain Magill, playing #2 singles, defeated Steven Carey 6-4, 6-2, while Skinner, playing #3 singles, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matt Smyth. Senior Joe Sciarrino, playing #4 singles, held on to defeat John Qua 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles, the #1 team of Costa Kensington and Sam Sheehy also won a hard-fought three-setter, edging Dean Gestal and Justin Beitler, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The other two doubles matches were decided by 10-point “super” tiebreakers after the outcome of the match had been decided. Playing at #2 doubles, Jora Dhaliwal and Ethan Pearce came back from a first-set loss to win 4-6, 7-5, and 10-4 in the tiebreaker over Charlie Mosher and Sean Carney. The #3 singles team of Malcolm Burnley and Zack Lupica also won in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.
