Even a ski trip to Okemo could not stop the short handed St. Luke's
Thirds team from rolling over arch rival Chase Collegiate school. St.
Luke's, missing six key players, jumped out to an early 24-0 lead in
the first four minutes of the game. The Crusaders fast start was
highlighted by Chris Labella's game high 14 points--all scored within
the first few minutes of play.
When it was all said and done and the final buzzer sounded, St. Luke's
claimed a 52-17 victory. The Crusaders were led on the floor by big
man Chad Landis, who ripped down a game high 17 rebounds, blocked a
shot, and contributed 6 points from the paint. Also burning up the
stat sheet was John Demosthene, who registered the first double double
of the season for the Thirds team by scoring 13 points and coming up
with 10 rebounds. Senior captain Peter 'wolf' Benoliel played 30 of 32
minutes of the game, constantly coming up with big defensive stops and
scoring two points in the waning seconds of the game.
All and all, a great team effort by the Thirds team. The team will be
back in action next Monday at New Canaan Country Day, where it looks to
avenge an early season loss.
