Sophia Martino and Grace DeLoe win Middle School Artwork of the Week!

Nancy Sarno
Congratulations to Sophia Martino and Grace DeLoe for their house that is big enough to get into!  That was their goal, and they worked for months to get it right.  The sculpture went through many variations- from being made entirely of plastic soda bottles hot-glued together, to soda bottles and milk bottles, to bottles taped together, to being first taped together then covered in papier mache, then they decided to try paper mache using just colorful tissue paper, then to just using the tissue paper "cloth" that they peeled off the bottles, and then with a few more changes... to how it is now!  They went on an adventure and came out with a house big enough to get into, and learned about materials and what they can do on the way!  Not only that, they started a trend of making houses in Art, all sorts- some big, some small, for people and for pets!  It's a wonderful, rich experience when we can build on each other's ideas and it's a big part of the world of art!
