Wonderful World Language Week

VGP
Last week’s annual World Language Week featured five days of fun-filled activities. Monday’s Chocolate Mousse-Off drew more than 25 delicious entries with the top prize going to Mary Zech ‘17. Money raised went to the American Association of Teachers of French CT Jacques Pépin French Culinary Fellowship. There were also various activities focusing on exotic alphabets and fortune telling. The week continued with a visit from the Rios de Encontro, a Brazilian dance troupe. This troupe of teenagers shared their experiences growing up in the Amazon during classes and performed for—and with—the Upper and Middle Schools. The highlight came midweek with the all-school, multilingual “It’s World Language Week” lip dub. With no full run-through and only one take, the World Language and Marketing & Communications Departments produced a creative video that has reached almost 3,500 on YouTube and Facebook. Wednesday was also Learn-A-New-Language Day. Students and faculty ran booths where they taught more than a dozen languages in the Commons. Thursday’s International Coffee House was a non-stop treat during lunch periods. Students and teachers rocked out, sang opera and had a great time—all with an international flair. To complete the week, students lined up for Chinese dumplings with proceeds going to China Care. There was also a collaborative art project led by Spanish teacher Isadora Machado.
