St. Luke’s Parent Helps During Declamations Prep

VGP
For the fifth year, St. Luke’s parent and Operating Partner at Calera Capital David Verklin gave some tips and tricks to the 8th graders preparing for their upcoming Declamations. Verklin shared stories about his experiences with public speaking, going to back to his own middle school years. At the age of 13, his mother made him join Toastmasters, one of the oldest and most venerable speaking societies in the United States. What started out as a chore soon became a passion. He competed in county, state and national levels and has never forgotten the experience. He told the students, "I cannot emphasize enough the value of public speaking. It will be useful throughout your entire life." After giving his top 11 tips, Verklin offered constructive feedback to a few students who volunteered to recite their Declamation introduction.

Many thanks to David Verklin for taking the time to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with our budding public speakers.
