Lunch & Lead Features Prosthetics Expert David Rooney

VGP
The Center for Leadership’s Lunch & Lead brought David Rooney—a leader in the field Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P)—to the Hilltop this past Wednesday. A native of Massachusetts, Rooney got his degree from NYU and now works at BioMetrics in CT as a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO).

Rooney’s fascination with O&P started as a teen and continues to this day. He talked about the various challenges of both creating the prosthetics and orthoses and people learning to use them: “We take walking around for granted. People with prosthetic legs may have to restrict their steps and are often limited with what they can do.” He even demonstrated why gaits and movements can vary with different prosthetics.

Rooney also visited Jason Warner’s Bioengineering class earlier in the day.
