Boys Varsity Tennis Off to Promising Start

The St. Luke's boys varsity tennis team is now 2-1 in the FAA.
The boys varsity tennis team is off to a promising start this season. So far, the Storm have met the team’s high expectations. The team started the season with a historic 4-3 win over Greens Farms Academy. The Storm had not beaten the powerhouse Dragons in more than eight years. Ryan Manocherian ’18 won his match at #2 singles, and Jose Minuesa ‘17 was victorious in the #3 singles spot. The #1 doubles pair, Chris Bloomer ’16 and Bailey Vehslage ’16, defeated their opponents, and Henry Vehslage ’16 and Peter Denious ’19 clinched the win over Greens Farms with a win in the #2 doubles match.

After the Storm’s win against GFA, they faced Brunswick – a team that is heavily favored to win the league this season. While the Storm were unable to defeat the Bruins, each member of the St. Luke’s squad ensured that the matches were close.

On Monday, April 25, the Storm defeated King, another long standing FAA rival. Freshman Max Leinert ’19 won his first career match at #4 singles (6-4, 7-5). The Storm swept the doubles contests. The most dramatic moment of the match came in the deciding contest at #3 doubles. The match score was tied at 3-3, and Henry Vehslage and Mitchell Mount ‘18 lost the first set. The pair rallied back to win the second set, and clinched a win for St. Luke’s with a third set win.
