Jewish Museum and Wave Hill Field Trip

VGP
From art teacher Nancy Sarno:

In late April, seventh grade students visited the Jewish Museum in New York City for a two-hour Art and Identity tour. Led by docents, we visited selected works of art from the permanent collection including the paintings I Hate the Name Kenneth by Ken Aptekar and The Return of the Volunteer by Moritz Oppenheim and a large collection of menorahs from around the world.

We also saw an exhibit that is currently getting much attention—Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History. Our docent shared that Mizrahi considers himself a collector of color, and part of the exhibit even included a large wall with groups of color swatches that he collected. Throughout the tour, students were asked to write and draw their thoughts in simple paper accordian books handed out by the docents.

After the museum, we went to Wave Hill in Riverdale, NY. There, students were asked to take photographs of trees from unusual angles—but they did even more. Their photos which will soon be exhibited in St. Luke's Gallery for everyone to see.
