St. Luke's Ryan Murphy In The Final For Heart Of A Giant Award

Dan Clarke
A huge congratulations to Ryan Murphy ‘17 who has made the final of this season’s USA Football Heart of a Giant Award.

The award program, presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants, recognizes high school football players within the Tri-State area that demonstrate unparalleled work ethic and passion for the game.

The St. Luke's community, along with Ryan’s  family and friends, helped him become one of six finalists by casting their votes online back in September. The St. Luke’s Football program will receive a $1500 equipment grant from Heart of a Giant as a result.

As a finalist, Ryan had to make an inspirational video showcasing his “Heart of Giant” story which he has submitted. The video will only be open to the public once the winner, who will receive an additional $3500 equipment grant for their school, has been announced.

Ryan and St. Luke’s Head Football coach Noel Thomas thanked all who helped during the voting period, “Thank you to everyone in the SLS community who voted for me through social media.” Murphy said. “I want everyone to know how appreciative St. Luke’s football and I am for their support. Each and every vote counted.”

Coach Thomas is very proud of his player and said Murphy is an extremely worthy finalist, “This is a true honor for Ryan and St. Luke’s” he said. “Ryan is very deserving of this award. I would like to thank our community for their votes and support that helped him reach the Grand Final.”

The winner will be announced in late November and will be honored on the field at the New York Giants home game on December 18 vs. the Detroit Lions. Good Luck Ryan!
