From the US musical that rocked the house to the MS madcap musical, audience and actors exuded excited energy during the Theatre Department’s back-to-back weekend productions.
The highly-anticipated rock musical Rentpacked the house. Director of Theatre Arts Jason Peck (who co-directed the production with US Music Chair Dale Griffa) shared these comments:
“Our performance of Rent will go down as one of the most special and meaningful experiences I’ve ever had in the theatre. Our very special cast and crew tackled a production that dealt with serious issues and doing it with such sensitivity, maturity, grace, earnestness, and, yes,...love. Everyone who had the pleasure of sitting in the Seldin Center during our run was part of something greater than themselves. They were part of an experience. Words can’t do justice to the immense pride I felt watching them and watching them move and stir our audiences. They weren’t just actors. They weren’t just technicians. They were the very best of what theatre has to offer. They were theatrical artists.”
The following weekend, the Middle School Drama presented the hilarious and emotional adaptation of Roald Dahl’s famous novel James & the Giant Peach. This musical adaptation included the kind-hearted orphan James, villainous aunts, a magic spell, human-sized bugs, a giant peach and many zany adventures. Colorful sets and engaged actors were all part of the fun during this energy-infused production of James & the Giant Peach.
