St. Luke’s senior Ajit Akole was named a Coca-Cola Scholar and will receive a $20,000 college scholarship. Ajit is one of only 150 students (three from Connecticut) to receive this prestigious award. From the more than 90,000 students who applied nationwide, 1,936 semifinalists were selected before choosing the final 150 scholars.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is in its 30th year and “exists to bring better to the world through investment in exceptional high school students who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others.”
Coca-Cola Scholars will be honored in April at a banquet and may participate in a Leadership Development Institute.
Director of Character Education Kate Parker-Burgard has known Ajit since he started at St. Luke’s in 5th grade. She reflected, “Ajit’s sense of leadership and maturity goes well beyond his years. He is smart, consistently kind, always responsible, and unfailingly generous. In my more than 20 years in education, Ajit stands out as someone who will make a mark on the world in a big way.”
