From Middle School World Language Chair Amber Berry:
World Language Week 2018 was a vibrant display of shared cultural experiences. With broad and enthusiastic student participation, the days presented opportunities for the community to come together to sing, play, eat, learn, and laugh.
The exciting week had some favorite annual activities including International Dress-Up Day, International Coffee House performances, and the Mousse-Off. Fun new additions this year included having a cake to celebrate Rome’s 2,770th birthday, exploring French mystery boxes, tackling trivia about China, tasting Chinese bubble tea, going back in time with green screen photos, and creating (and destroying) piñatas. Throughout the week we also supported the work of the Pulsera Project, which educates, empowers, and sends proceeds directly to the Central American artists. Hand-woven bracelets for sale each came with a tag sharing information about the artist who created it.
A highlight of the week was the "Imagine" song relay that enlisted the participation of more than 400 students and faculty singing translated lyrics in seven languages including English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Latin, Ancient Greek, and American Sign Language.
