St. Luke’s welcomed acclaimed author, Army veteran, Rhodes Scholar, and youth advocate, Wes Moore, to the Hilltop this past Sunday afternoon. Well known for his 2010 memoir, “The Other Wes Moore”, Moore was invited through the combined efforts of St. Luke’s, the New Canaan Library, and Elm Street Books. The event brought out over four hundred community members to hear Moore speak and share his personal experiences overcoming adversity growing up in Baltimore and the Bronx.
Dr. Stephanie Bramlett, Director of Diversity and Student Life, shared the excitement of the event, saying, “It couldn’t have worked out better to have Wes Moore come just after our community read his book. St. Luke’s is focused on building an inclusive community and Wes Moore’s books are a wonderful way to grow understanding.”
Moore's energy and passion were evident throughout his impassioned speech and while meeting audience members afterwards. His new book "The Work: My Search for a Life That Matters" is about finding fulfillment through service to others.
