Seizing Summer For Professional Development

VGP
Some St. Luke’s faculty seized the summer to explore professional development opportunities around the world.

Four teachers had the chance to study abroad. Science teacher Carrie Van Atten—along with fourteen other educators from around the country—went to Ecuador for a ten-day exploration of the Galápagos Islands and Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve. French teacher Susan Sarrazin traveled to Rennes, France for a ten-day intensive workshop focusing on the historical and contemporary Breton culture. World history teacher Abby Bielski spent seventeen days immersed in The Islamic Republic of Iran. US Science Chair Janet Jochem went into the Costa Rican rain forest for an intriguing field-based course for teachers using the process of science to deliver the content of science.
