Spirited Showing at St. Luke’s 2015-2016 Athletic Kickoff

Over 300 varsity and junior varsity athletes, coaches, parents and administrators gathered on Sept. 9 for the 2015-2016 Upper School Athletic Kickoff. Hosted by the St. Luke’s Athletic Department and Parents’ Association Athletics/Storm Chasers Committee, the Kickoff is an opportunity for athletes and parents to meet with coaches and other key members of the Athletic Department. Athletic Director Mike West led the program and highlighted the key role athletics plays in the development of a well-rounded student as well as its contribution to a connected community. St. Luke’s has a history of outstanding support from parents and faculty and Mike West also expressed the hope that this year will be no different.

In response to the event’s great turnout, Mike West said, “It was great to celebrate the start of the athletic year with parents and student-athletes on Wednesday evening at our Upper School Athletic Kickoff. The spirit and excitement of the student-athletes is clear, and the support of the parents will no doubt be once again tremendous. The evening served as a great platform from which to commit ourselves to our teams, the spirit of positive sportsmanship, and the desire to grow through our athletic experiences.”

The event concluded with breakout sessions for all fall teams. Coaches for football, field hockey, volleyball, boys and girls soccer and cross country met with their athletes and parents to discuss important details for the upcoming season. Spring and winter teams will meet with coaches at the beginning of their respective seasons.

St. Luke’s is grateful for the dedication of its Athletic Department and coaching staff. In addition to Mike West as Athletic Director, the St. Luke’s Athletic Department includes Jennifer Besgen, Associate Athletic Director, Anna Knechtel (Athletic Training Coordinator), Nicole Guido (Assistant ATC), Lorraine Wagner (Athletic Center Office Manager.)

Congratulations to all our student-athletes and we wish you a great year. Go Storm!
