Varsity Softball in Fine Form

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s Varsity Softball team was in fine form this week with a comfortable 15-2 win over the King School on Monday 5/1 followed by an equally impressive 4-2 victory over The Canterbury School on Tuesday 5/2.

The Storm traveled to the Vikings in search of its third successive win and were not disappointed. With just a 3-2 advantage after three innings, the visitors added three runs in the fourth before a phenomenal sixth inning all but ended the contest.

SLS added nine runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a single by Emma Castiglione ‘18, an error, a double by Emma Cropper ‘19, a single by Ali Ferris ‘18 and a double by Noell Ruschil ‘18.

Cropper earned the win for SLS pitching six innings, surrendering two runs, five hits, striking out three and walking one.

The team’s second road trip in two days proved to be a much closer match-up with both sides pitching great games.

In a very tightly-contested opening, the two teams traded blows with Luke’s canceling out the Saints first-inning run in the top of the third.

The visitors added one more in the top of the fifth, following an error, and then took a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth with Courteney Newman ‘18 and Kendall Boege ‘19 scoring.

Despite giving up one run in the bottom of the sixth, the Storm prevailed bringing their overall record to 4-1.

Riley Page ‘19 had an excellent afternoon on the mound pitching all seven innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out six.

Next up for Varsity Softball is a huge FAA contest away at The Hopkins School on Thursday 5/4. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30pm.
