St. Luke's Dynamic Duo Claim FAA Tennis Title

Dan Clarke
The St. Luke’s Girls Tennis doubles team of Cayley Stonehouse ‘17 and Cierra Kitt ‘19 were crowned FAA Champions on Monday, May 15 after defeating Greenwich Academy.

The dynamic duo went into the tournament undefeated during the season and continued their dominance en route to claiming the title at Greens Farms Academy.

The pair got off to a perfect start against The Masters School (NY) in round one, racing to an 8-0 win, before an equally impressive 8-2 victory over Rye Country Day in the semi-final.

That set up an intriguing championship match-up against the Gators of Greenwich. Both teams traded blows over and over again in a hard-fought contest before Stonehouse and Kitt eventually claimed the win, and the trophy, 9-7.

On being crowned FAA champions Kitt said: “It feels really good, I am so proud of us both. I really wanted to win this for Cayley because it’s her senior year and she deserves to go out with a bang.”

The girls are now hoping to go the entire season undefeated and help the team defend its New England title. Kitt believes the friendship and bond she has formed with Stonehouse has been the key to their success: “We have become really close and I think the fact that we really care for each other helps us when things get tough on the court.”

The Girls Tennis team will defend their New England title on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.
