The St. Luke’s Golf team defended its FAA title on Monday, May 15th at the Country Club of New Canaan—giving St. Luke’s its first back-to-back golf championships.
Despite extreme conditions, including winds gusting upwards of 30 mph, the Storm claimed the overall team title by 22 shots, with Rye Country Day and Hopkins School rounding out the top three.
Co-captain Jack Lustig ‘17 scored low with a round of 78 to win the individual honors with Ben James of Hamden Hall.
The team’s other co-captain David Ball ‘17, Jack Maguire ‘19 and Mark Gertsen ‘19 all scored in the low 80’s, helping St. Luke’s take a comfortable victory while many golfers struggled to cope with the vicious wind.
Lustig said after the victory: “We knew we had the talent within this group to repeat but we had to prove it. It feels amazing to win back-to-back FAA titles.”
The senior has enjoyed an excellent season and capped it off in style despite the difficult conditions. He added, “I think the key was to try to minimize my mistakes today. It was obviously very difficult out there with the wind but I tried not to let the mistakes get to me and just continue to hit the ball well.”
