Boys Varsity Tennis Captures First-Ever NEPSAC Championship

Mark "Frog" Ogilvie
The SLS Boys Varsity Tennis team claimed the 2025 NEPSAC Class C Championship Title—their first ever in school history. This is also the first year that the Storm qualified for the NEPSAC Class C Postseason Tournament.

“This was a breakthrough season in every sense,” said Head Coach Frank Russo. “From the first day of practice, we knew we had something special—this was the most focused and unified group I’ve ever coached. They committed to each other, pushed through every challenge, and ended the season as champions.”

The team was led by junior captain Bryson Baker, whose leadership both on and off the court helped shape the culture of the team. At 1st Singles, senior Todd Cannaliato anchored the lineup with consistency, power, and his unmatched competitive spirit. Cannaliato, who will continue his tennis career next year at Washington and Lee University, was undefeated in the NEPSAC tournament and a driving force throughout the postseason run. Additionally, Bryson Baker, Nate Samelson, Carter Post, and Connor Hahn all went undefeated in the NEPSAC postseason.

The championship match itself was a reflection of the team’s resilience and composure. With tight battles and crucial wins, every point mattered—and every player delivered.

The Storm’s success is even more impressive when considered within the context of their highly competitive league, the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA). This year, FAA teams swept the NEPSAC postseason, winning Class A, Class B, and Class C championships.

“If you’re looking to play high-level boys’ tennis in New England, you need to look at the FAA,” said SLS Athletic Director Anna Knechtel. “The level of competition is unmatched, and we’re proud that St. Luke’s is right in the mix at the top.”

As the team looks ahead, one thing is clear: SLS Boys Tennis has arrived—and they’re here to stay.
