  • Girls Varsity Soccer 2011 FAA League Champions

    JTA/KB
St. Luke's traveled down the Merritt Parkway to face rival Convent of the Sacred Heart Wednesday afternoon. At the final whistle, the Storm emerged victorious and, with their 3-0 win, earned sole bragging rights as the 2011 FAA Girls Soccer League Champions. The 3-0 scoreline aside, the match was an incredibly hard fought, extremely physical game that saw SLS whistled for 13 fouls, including 1 yellow card. After playing the first half to a scoreless draw, Caroline Parsons '13 fought through four Convent defenders and fed a cross to freshman Meredith Rogers '15 to open the 2nd half scoring. Some nervous possession from St. Luke's and big defensive efforts from senior captains Hannah Butman '12 and Kelly Seaver '12 kept the score 1-0 until the final ten minutes of the game as sophomore Salma Anastasio '14 found the back of the net twice to up her team leading goal total to 23 (with 11 assists). St. Luke's finishes the season at 11-2-1 overall (7-1-1 FAA) and awaits their FAA Tournament semi-final opponent on Wednesday November 9 at home, time TBD.

St. Luke's Places Two on All-New England Football Team

    Ryan Brown

St. Luke’s is pleased to announce that Henry Nelson ’11 and Zaire Reiph ’11 have been named to the 2010 All-New England Class C Football 1st Team.  Henry and Zaire were co-captains and integral members of the FAA Co-Champions this fall.

Henry was the team’s stopper on defense.  A 4 year starter at MLB for the team, Henry really developed into a feared member of the defense.  He lead the team in tackles with 66 including 15 tackles for loss.  He also recovered 2 fumbles.  Henry also was a key member of the offense, starting at right tackle.

Zaire was the leader of an offense that averaged 33 points a game.  He lead the offensive attack with 1080 yards rushing averaging 8.9 yards a carry.  He scored 16 touchdowns this fall.  Zaire was also a major factor on defense making 59 tackles and intercepting 2 passes.

“These two young men were a pleasure to have in our program.  They were a major reason we were able to turn our program around this year.  Their work ethic, determination, leadership and positive energy was contagious.  We’re going to miss them as football players but most importantly as great kids next year,” according to Coach Brown
