St. Luke's Girls Basketball Surging With Back to Back Wins

Dan Lyons
The St. Luke's girls varsity basketball team looks to be hitting its stride at the right time.  Following up a 61-56 win at Canterbury School on Monday, the Storm defeated a good King team at home on Tuesday, 57-46.
Canterbury opened Monday's game trying to press the Storm, to no avail.  The pressure defense led to easy opportunities for St. Luke's who jumped out to a 16 point lead in the first half.  Canterbury began to shave the lead in the second half, but an incredible effort by St. Luke's guard Sydney Lowery '17 led the Storm to victory.  Lowery finished the game with 41 points, hitting 17-of-20 free throw attempts.  K.C. Kelly '13 missed much of the game with foul trouble, but was able to return to the floor late and scored 11 crucial points for St. Luke's as well.

The Storm girls had a quick turnaround after Monday's win, with a home game against FAA rival King.  The game was also St. Luke's senior day, where K.C. Kelly and Taylor Callaghan '13 were honored for their contributions to the program.  Lowery was spectacular once again, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as well as three steals on the day.  K.C. Kelly had another big performance with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Megan Maguire '14  added six points and grabbed five key rebounds.

The two wins move St. Luke's record to 9-9, and with post-season play right around the corner, the Storm is hitting its stride at the perfect moment.  SLS travels to Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT on Thursday for a 4:15 game.
