Varsity Softball and Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis all hosted their senior days on the hilltop this week.
Girls Tennis opened the week with their match against Hamden Hall. Beforehand, seniors Sanjana Chintalapudi ’13, Allie Christopher ’13, Cassie Christopher ’13, Daniele Coxe ’13, and Madeleine Ker ’13 were honored. The Storm swept Hamden Hall 7-0 in the match, and finished the season 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the FAA. Chintalapudi and Cassie Christopher will each participate in next Monday’s FAA singles tournament while the teams of Coxe and Ker and Grace Hennemuth ’14 and Tess Tregellas ’15 will play in the doubles tournament. Both will be played at GFA.
For their excellent play this season, Sanjana Chintalapudi was named FAA All-League and Allie Christopher was given honorable mention by the league.
Storm softball moved it’s mark to 12-1 with a 9-0 senior day victory over Hamden Hall. Seniors Janay Parrott ’13 and Jenny Price ’13 were honored at the pregame ceremony for their contributions to the St. Luke’s community. Marissa Ruschil ’15 shined on the mound, only surrendering one hit on the afternoon, and drove in four runs on offense.
St. Luke’s earned the top seed in the WNEPSGBA tournament, and host Cheshire Academy at 2 pm on Saturday. The Storm defeated Cheshire 5-4 on April 22. The winner of the game will face the winner of Christian Heritage vs. Millbrook, which St. Luke’s would host at noon on Sunday should they advance on Saturday.
Boys tennis hosted its senior day on Thursday, also against Hamden Hall, and had similar success with a 5-2 match win. Max Macey ’13 improved his regular season record to 12-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory. Gardner Tregellas ’14 and Wiley Vehslage ’13 each scored shutout 6-0, 6-0 singles wins, while Justin Hart ’14 scored a hard-fought 6-2, 6-3 singles victory. Clay Kontulis ’15 and Will Bloomer ’14 were also victorious in their doubles match.
Before the match, the athletic department honored Kamau Burton ’13, Max Macey, Powell Robinson ’13, Aidan Stone ’13, and Wiley Vehslage.
The team is now 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the FAA, and finishes the season with matches against Rye and Gunnery next week.
