St. Luke’s Junior Wins Top Statewide French Award

V.Parker
From Upper School World Language Chair Jon Shee:

Junior Amélie Warneryd won the American Association of Teachers of French Connecticut Alberta Conte Junior Award in French, which is considered the top high school French honor in the state. This annual competition recognizes just one junior from all of Connecticut who exhibits truly outstanding skills in speaking and writing French.

The nomination process included an extensive dossier of her work and an in-person interview with French teachers from throughout the state.  The judges wrote, “Nous avons été absolument enchantés par votre passion pour le français. Votre maîtrise de cette belle langue est fort impressionnante et votre appréciation du monde francophone est à la fois sensible et éclairée.” (We were absolutely enchanted by your passion for French. Your mastery of this beautiful language is truly impressive and your appreciation of the French-speaking world is both sensitive and knowledgeable.)

In addition to $500 in prize money, Amélie will attend a statewide award ceremony in May at Hopkins School where she will give a speech in both French and English.  Félicitations, Amélie!
