SpringFest 2019: Celebrating Academics and the Arts

In April, the St. Luke’s community celebrated academics and the arts at SpringFest 2019.
Throughout the school year, 14 seniors independently researched a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) or global (analysis of a global issue and extensive language study) topic. On the evening of Thursday, April 11, these Senior Scholars presented their findings to their peers, teachers, family, and friends at the annual Scholars Symposium.
On Friday, April 12, SpringFest was in full swing on the Hilltop. Afternoon and evening events included theatre, art, and music. The Introduction to Acting Class presented The Dream Projects, and the St. Luke’s Theater Company (comprised of Advanced Acting students) presented Steel Magnolias. There was an additional performance of Steel Magnolias on Saturday evening.
The Senior and Spring Art Exhibitions featured works by many St. Luke’s students, including highlighted works by Olivia Schwartz ‘19. These exhibits were the culmination of St. Luke’s Visual Arts Week. Upper School English teachers Steve Flachsbart and Ross James provided live music entertainment as everyone enjoyed the artwork and refreshments.
Following the art exhibitions, Jonathan Salamon ‘10 received the Alumni Artistic Achievement Award. Salamon, who performed at this year’s State of the School in October and is working towards his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Yale, impressed the crowd again with his magnificent harpsichord skills. Jon was introduced by two of his classmates, Olivia Tow ‘10 and Ali Tesluk ‘10, and performed pieces by Domenico Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach.
