Model UN Attends Conference at Cornell
Twenty-six St. Luke’s students and chaperones Abby Abbott and Hunter Martin headed to Cornell University at the end of April to participate in the Cornell Model United Nations Conference, which took place April 21-24. Participants represented various countries in committees, ranging from the World Trade Organization to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council to the Inaugural Session of the United Nations. Some delegates even represented individual characters in Crisis Committees, such as Marsha Blackburn in the U.S. Senate and Jacques Necker in the French Assembly. In addition to the competition, the students enjoyed a group tour of Cornell’s campus, given by St. Luke’s Alumnus Ryan Neafsey ‘18.
The end of the trip was bittersweet for Model UN Club Presidents Aarit Bhatnagar ‘22 and Matthew Sherter ‘22, as it was their last conference. Reflecting on the trip, Bhatnagar said, “Having the opportunity to do one last conference, especially after COVID prevented us from in-person conferences for a year-and-a-half, was amazing. Getting to know everyone in the club better was the best part, since they all made it a great experience, and it was wonderful to see the bright future our club has.”
