Melissa Baker

Melissa is a former professional cellist who continues to perform locally and is an active member of the classical music community. She serves on the Board of New Canaan Chamber Music and is a performing member of the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony in NYC. She studied with Marion Feldman and Cecylia Barczyk, and earned her Masters in Cello Performance from the Steinhardt School at NYU.

Prior to her musical career, Melissa earned her B.A. in Political Science at UPenn, and worked as a hedge-fund portfolio manager, most recently at TAG Associates. Previously she held asset management positions at BlackRock and Mezzacappa Capital. 

Today, Melissa is an actively engaged member of the New Canaan community. She has led numerous committees at South Elementary and Saxe Middle School, and held leadership positions with the Newcomers Club and the Young Women’s League, among others. 

She and her husband, Garrett, have lived in New Canaan for 12 years and are the parents of three children at St. Luke’s: Bryson (‘26), Luke (‘29), and Anna (‘31). The Bakers joined the SLS community in 2021.
