6th Graders Heighten Empathy With Water Walk

V. Parker
From 6th Grade History Teacher Samantha Gordon:

On April 28, 6th graders hit the pavement carrying gallons of water in their In Her Shoes Water Walk Simulation Project. This 1.25 mile expedition was inspired by the true events from the grade's recent reading of Long Walk to WaterPrior to the walk, the 6th grade World Cultures classes discussed the challenges of accessing clean water in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The day of the water walk was a warm one which gave the students a better perspective of what it is like to trek long distances in the heat just to get clean water.
